I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

I recently read a book everyone had raved about: I'm Glad My Mom Died. This memoir by child actor Jennette McCurdy has a catchy, controversial title and a beloved following. I, too, was enticed by the title. I didn't, however, know who McCurdy was before picking up her book. I'm a bit older so I missed the boat on her Nickelodeon shows. McCurdy's story is pretty harrowing. Her writing is good and I appreciate her baring her soul for the sake of connecting with the reader, but as the reader I am so relieved to have finished the book. I'm Glad My Mom Died reveals a painful upbringing that is so stressful to read about. I would've loved to hear more about the healing and repair parts of McCurdy's life, which got limited coverage at the very end of her account. Regardless, I'm glad she's in a sort of recovery and sharing her story, and I wish her joy and peace going forward. And agreed, good riddance she's free from her mom.
