Breaking Free of Child Anxiety

This past year we've had some sleep and anxiety challenges with one of our kids, and I was recently discussing a helpful resource with a friend. I realized I hadn't shared that particular book on the blog, so here goes!

Breaking Free of Child Anxiety by Eli R. Lebowitz focuses on what parents can do to help their kids cope with having anxiety. The book lays out a scientifically proven program for caregivers, no kid cooperation required. It's not easy, but the messaging is simple. Be supportive, without accommodating anxiety. Lebowitz explains in detail exactly how to do this. I highly recommend this method, along with some therapy. Before learning about this theory, I had been subconsciously accommodating my daughter's anxiety. My mama bear instinct is to protect her, but that wasn't serving her. In fact, it was feeding the anxiety. Hubs and I have been doing a lot of work to instead support, but not accommodate, and it's been helping big time.
